allie rasmus is live with more on the progress of crews trying to turn back on the lights. what is the latest? >> reporter: pg&e has made a lot of progress this morning. the latest update is now there only 111 customers in this neighborhood still without power after this accident happened. earlier this morning there were 5,000 customers without power in this east bay hayward neighborhood. after a driver hit that 45-foot power pole that you see completely knocked in two and on its side in the middle of the street. it happened around 3:00 this morning. the power pole was sliced in half and live power lines were tossed into the street and across people's homes and yards. some neighbors woke up when they saw the flash of the live power lines. >> there were loud pops initially. the light was so bright it woke me up through the blinds in the window. i was asleep inside. >> reporter: now the driver was taken to the hospital after the crash. it appears she is okay. about 45 minutes ago she and her mom came back to the car before it was towed away to collect some of her stuff inside
